Chapter 11: Let Us Dance
Introduction
Chapter 11, Let Us Dance, opens the Movement and Dance unit of Bansuri–I. The book expands the word DANCE:
Pictures show Kimboi and Vimla dancing, Rajesh Sir dancing with a stick, and Rishi and Sona dancing together. The note for teachers asks them to demonstrate every movement and keep recorded beats and simple songs handy. It also asks them to make every activity interactive and repeat activities children enjoy with new variations.
What's in this Chapter
- Music has many rhythmic patterns, and hearing them helps you create your own movements.
- Stamp your feet and clap to the beats of a song.
- Use toe and flat foot, or heel and flat foot, and use your left and right foot.
- Make a circle and move while clapping and stamping with the beats.
- Moving together is very important when more than two people dance in a group.
- Make a simple pattern of movements in a group, with hand movements (hastas), while reciting syllables.
- Examples: na dhin dhin na, taka dhimi taka jhuNu, taa thai thai tat.
- Watch animals and copy their movements.
- The book shows hand and finger movements for a flying bird, flower, snake, fish, animal and parrot.
- Also observe birds, people, animals and trees, and show them with your hands.
- Dance to a single line of a song or a small story with friends, combining four-beat syllables with hand and finger movements.
- Can you recognise a four- or eight-beat rhythm? Show animals, birds, flowers and nature with your hands. "Yes! keep on dancing…"
