Chapter 2: Hide and Seek
Introduction
Mini, Bholu, Jagat, Rani and their friends play hide and seek. Mini looks from the top of a tree, and what each child can see depends on where they stand. From this game the chapter builds two big ideas: the same object looks different from different places (views), and we can describe where things are using rows, columns, steps and maps.

💡 Key Learning Points
- ✓The same object gives different pictures from the top, front and side.
- ✓What we can see depends on where we stand, as in the hide and seek game.
- ✓Positions can be described using rows and columns.
- ✓Paths on a grid are described by counting steps left, right, up and down, without diagonal moves.
- ✓A map shows places from above and helps us find and compare routes.
👨🏫 Teaching Tips
- →Act out hide and seek in class and ask who can see whom from different spots.
- →Show a real brick or box and let three children draw it from three sides.
- →Build matchbox buildings in groups and exchange view drawings to match.
- →Draw a 3 by 3 grid on the floor with chalk and play Rani's clue game with real objects.
- →Use the treasure hunt with a 4 by 4 grid; ask children to speak their path aloud: 'I moved 2 steps right, then 1 step up'.
- →Use the school sight map to discuss the shortest route and why it is shortest.
- →Let each child draw a sight map from the school gate to their classroom as project work.
