Chapter 1: Basic Motor Movements
Introduction
"Basic Motor Movements" is Unit 1 of Khel Yoga, the Class 3 Physical Education and Well-being book. The file uploaded for this unit contains its opening and Chapter 1: Throwing and Catching, with six games (BM 1 to BM 6). The unit welcomes children to "the exciting world of movement!"
What's in this Chapter
About the unit – gross and fine motor skills.
The unit develops five basic motor movements: throwing, catching, kicking, receiving and striking. It uses objects of different sizes, weights and textures.
Chapter 1 – Throwing and Catching. Throwing uses the arms, shoulders and torso. The torso is the upper part of the body, not counting the head and arms. Hands release and catch the object.
How to throw:
The teacher checks grip, stance (eyes on the target, legs spread, knees slightly bent), throw (smooth twist and arm swing) and follow-through.
How to catch:
Soft hands and bent knees reduce the impact. The book says to use soft balls and increase difficulty step by step.
Activities from the Book (Games)
Many games end with Circle Time, such as "Star and Wish" or sharing one good and one bad feeling about the game.
