Chapter 1: A Day at the Beach
Introduction
A Day at the Beach is the first chapter of Joyful Mathematics for Class 2. It takes children to a busy seashore with coconuts, boats, shell necklaces, balloons and bananas, and asks a simple question: How did you count them — one by one, or in bunches and groups? From this start the chapter builds the idea of tens and ones, which is the base of all two-digit numbers.

- ✓Understand that 10 tens (ten strips) make 100.
- ✓Compare two-digit numbers by looking first at tens and then at ones.
- ✓Use numbers to show position (first, second) and as labels such as jersey or house numbers.
